 The history of Terni

Terni was founded by the ancient Romans in and takes its name from the Latin "Interamna" (literally "city between the waters").

Located in the center of Italy, along the ancient Via Flaminia, it is 100 kms from Rome and 80 kms from Perugia.

With its population of 120,000 Terni is known as the "Italian Manchester", due to the presence of steel and chemical industries, both of wich are well affirmed and date back to the end of the 1800s.

The Multi-media Center is the pride and joy of Terni as it enters the third millennium and includes movies studioswhere, among the various productions, the Roberto Benigni's movies "Pinocchio" and "Life is beatiful" were filmed (a movie wich brought him on Oscar in 2000).

The nearby areas, immersed completely in the green Umbrian countryside, are particularly suggestive, and of special note among these are the Marmore Falls (the highest in Europe at 182ms), Lake Piediluco, and thevarious medieval hill towns
